Ranking simulator

Understand how your ranking is calculated in your sport and country, then simulate it with your own results.

The FFT ranking is based on a record: wins earn points according to the opponent's ranking, losses reduce the number of wins taken into account.

How it works

  1. 1Each win is worth 0 to 120 points: 60 against a player at your level, 90 one level above, 120 two or more levels above, and less against lower-ranked players.
  2. 2Only your best wins are kept: a base depending on the target level, increased by V − E − 2I − 5G (V wins, E losses at equal level, I losses one level below, G losses two or more levels below).
  3. 3Start from the best opponent beaten and go down to the level whose norm is reached (drop limited to one level over 12 months). Below 30/5, the 5th series (40/2, 40/1) and 40 are earned by number of wins. Recalculated monthly.

⚠ Common pitfall

Losing to a much lower-ranked player is costly: it removes counted wins, not just points.

Detailed calculation method

Formula

  • 1. Starting level: the ranking of the best opponent beaten over 12 months (on match day). It's the maximum reachable: to move up you must have beaten a player already at the target level (no walkovers).
  • 2. Counted wins = level base + correction from Δ = V − E − 2I − 5G (V all wins incl. walkovers; E losses at the same level; I one level below; G two or more). In the 4th and 3rd series a negative Δ removes nothing.
  • 3. Record = points of the best wins, computed against the tested level (not your current ranking), + bonuses (no significant loss, individual championships).
  • 4. If the record reaches the norm, you're ranked at that level; otherwise try one level lower. Drops are limited to one level over 12 months (except penalties: repeated walkovers, or Δ ≤ −100 from −2/6).
  • 5. Below 30/5: 40/2 = at least 4 wins (singles or doubles); 40/1 = at least 8 wins excluding walkovers; 40 = 12 wins, or one win against a 40 or better. Losing a match no longer earns a 40.
  • Walkovers: a walkover win counts in V but earns 0 points; from the 3rd walkover loss, each counts as a G loss.

Worked example

  1. Player 30/1. 14 wins: 3 vs 30, 3 vs 30/1, 4 vs 30/2, 2 vs 30/3, 2 vs 30/4. 3 losses: 2 vs 30, 1 vs 30/1.
  2. Start at 30 (best opponent beaten). Δ = 14 − 2 − 2×1 − 0 = 10 → +2 in the 3rd series: 8 + 2 = 10 counted wins.
  3. Record: 3×60 + 3×30 + 4×20 = 350 points, no bonus (losses to 30s). 350 ≥ 285: ranked 30. With one more loss to a 30/3, Δ = 5 → 9 wins, 330 points: still 30.

Period and updates : Rolling 12 months, single ranking published monthly (1st Tuesday) since October 2022; opponent's ranking taken on match day. In the 2nd series, quota harmonisation only allows an estimate.

Official body : Fédération Française de Tennis (FFT). Check its official website for the full rules of the season.

Educational estimate: only the official ranking published by the federation counts. Scales marked "indicative" may change from one season to the next.
